Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Republic Services made a commitment to environmental stewardship, investing more than $10 million to convert its collection fleet to CNG fuel and reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 26.5 metric tons/per vehicle/per year, amounting to almost 800 metric tons for the entire operation of the collection fleet.
Technology
Monterey Regional Waste Management District
The agency has been composting green waste for more than 20 years and was the first in the region to initiate a food scrap compost program in 2008. In 2012, working in partnership with the technology developer Zero Waste Energy, they developed the first dry fermentation anaerobic digestion compost system for food scraps in the State of California, significantly reducing fugitive methane emissions from landfills.
Leadership
The Offset Project is a local nonprofit organization devoted to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through education and grassroots initiatives, cultivating the principles of sustainability, environmental stewardship, and climate protection in the Monterey Bay community. The Offset Project has made an indelible and positive impact on many of the community's most vital organizations, events, and people.
