History
Breathe California Central Coast (BCCC) was established in 1952 in Monterey. The organization went through a series of name changes between 1952-2006 and in February 2006 we changed our name to Breathe California Central Coast. Over the past fifty years BCCC has worked diligently to fulfill its mission, fighting to improve the lung health of area residents through development and implementation of grassroots programs tailored to meet real community needs, advocating for policy change, and collaboration with local organizations. On February 3, 2006 in conjunction with four other Breathe California organizations covering 60% of the state with offices in San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento and Los Angeles, BCCC launched a brand-new statewide organization called Breathe California. Although our name has changed, our mission remains the same: BCCC will continue working vigorously at the local level to improve the lung health of people living on the Central Coast. BCCC’s programs fall under the general categories of Environmental and Lung Health, Tobacco Control, and Community Outreach.
